I found this superb Kokeshi during my last trip to Japan, in an antique store in Tokyo.
Kokeshi are Japanese wooden dolls, traditionally handmade in the mountainous regions of Tōhoku. Simple in form, they feature a round head and a cylindrical body without arms or legs, often decorated with hand-painted floral motifs. Kokeshi are given as good luck charms or as a token of friendship, symbolizing protection and health. They also make beautiful decorative objects. Each kokeshi is unique.
This kokeshi measures 18.5cm. Another kokeshi is also available.
