This linen furoshiki was designed by Nobuyuki Takai, a renowned and award-winning Japanese textile designer and dyer. In 1975, Takai joined the workshop of Takeshi Yamauchi, himself an apprentice of Keisuke Serizawa, a dyer recognized as a Living National Treasure. A specialist in pattern dyeing and the traditional technique of tsutsu gaki, Takai often draws inspiration from natural forms and the seasons in his creations. His workshop, nestled in the heart of nature, reflects this connection to the environment.
The design of this furoshiki beautifully depicts a scene where seeds carefully planted on hillsides welcome the harvest season. The color variations created by the length and spacing of the lines create a unique effect, and the appearance of the pattern changes depending on how the fabric is folded or tied. This furoshiki takes on a special dimension when used as a bag.
The soft, natural ecru shade was chosen for its simplicity and understated elegance. The linen, sourced from France, is lightweight and pleasant to the touch, making it ideal for use as a scarf.
Furoshiki are squares of fabric traditionally used to carry objects or wrap gifts. They can also be used as wall decorations, bringing a refined, artisanal touch to your home.
This furoshiki can also be transformed into a handbag by tying it or using a wooden and magnetic patch, available in our shop.
Care: dry clean or delicate wash at 30°C, air dry.
Handcrafted in Kyoto, Japan.
