Wada Sanzo (1883–1967) was a major figure in color research in Japan. Founder of the Japan Color Association (now The Color Research Institute of Japan), he made a significant impact on the fields of Western painting, costume design, film, and decorative arts.
His work on the film Gate of Hell (1954) earned him the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
Recognized as a Person of Cultural Merit, he left a lasting legacy in Japanese aesthetics.
