Founded 150 years ago, pottery maker Shinzan Gama Yamatsu continues to challenge itself to create products suitable for modern times while preserving tradition.
Inspired by the same truncated conical shape (called a "frustum") as the other pieces in this collection (also available in the shop), the Frustum porcelain tea bowl is an understated and majestic work of art that will quickly become your favorite tea container. It can also be used for soup or breakfast, for example.
Its unusual matte gray glaze and elegant geometric profile, designed in collaboration with Mag Design Lab founder Keita Hanazawa, perfectly complement a slightly rough texture that recalls the collection's earthy origins. Each porcelain piece is crafted from granite clay locally harvested in Toki, Japan, and fired in a 150-year-old kiln by master artisans.
This collection won the prestigious international design award, the Red Dot Design Award, in Germany in 2020.
